    New Releases 08 November 2019

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Ghosteen - Bad Seed Ltd
The songs on the first album are the children. The songs on the second album are their parents. Ghosteen is a migrating spirit. The album was recorded in 2018 and early 2019 at Woodshed in Malibu, Nightbird in Los Angeles, Retreat in Brighton and Candybomber in Berlin. It was mixed by Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Lance Powell and Andrew Dominik at Conway in Los Angeles.

FKA Twigs - Magdalene - Young Turks
The follow up to FKA Twigs’ critically acclaimed Brit Award and Mercury Prize nominated debut LP1 (2014, Young Turks). Widely regarded as one of the best albums of 2014 and selling over 340,000 records globally. Top-40 rapper Future appears on the album’s second single “Holy Terrain”, continuing a run of rap collaborations including an appearance on A$AP Rocky’s ‘Testing’ LP. Twigs will tour the US in November with a theatrical performance that debuted in May to universal acclaim as well as several major festivals (Afropunk Brooklyn and Atlanta, Flog Gnaw)

Allen Stone - Building Balance - ATO Records
Allen Stone’s “Building Balance” is his first new album in 4 years, spanning a time period spent figuring out how the old parts and the new parts of his universe were going to co-exist. For Building Balance he worked with Grammy winning producer Nasri as well as Jamie Lidell. Stone continues to draw inspiration from '70s funk and soul with current flexes, sitting amid D'Angelo in its sultrier moments, Stevie Wonder at its most melodic and the production of Mark Ronson at its most modern.

Luke Combs - What You See Is What You Get - SME Nashville
Produced by Scott Moffatt, What You See Is What You Get features 17 songs including the five tracks previously released via Luke Combs' The Prequel EP earlier this summer.

    Lily Kershaw - Arcadia

Lily Kershaw - ArcadiaLily Kershaw - ArcadiaLily Kershaw - Arcadia - Nettwerk Records
Imagine the mind’s farthest wanderings made physical, formed into worlds that represent our internal and external expressions. Mythologically speaking, people have been naming this duality for ages: utopia and dystopia, heaven and earth, Olympus and the underworld. Now imagine this concept distilled in an eleven track, thirty-six minute album, and you arrive at Arcadia, the latest offering by songstress Lily Kershaw. Weaving warmer analog sounds like organ, harpsichord and guitar with cinematic force, Arcadia is Kershaw’s most intimate release to date. But the strongest tool Kershaw wields is her voice, both in the simmering ferocity it carries and the poetry it speaks. Though the concept behind the record is epic to say the least, Kershaw is ultimately telling a story of acceptance, both of herself and the great mystery that is the universe

Bob Dylan - Travelin' Thru, 1967 - 1969: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 15 - Sony Legacy
The latest chapter in the highly acclaimed Bob Dylan Bootleg Series revisits Dylan's pivotal musical journeys to Nashville, from 1967 to 1969, focusing on previously unavailable recordings made with Johnny Cash and unreleased tracks from the John Wesley Harding, Nashville Skyline, and Self Portrait sessions. LP 1 finds Dylan in Columbia's Studio A in Nashville recording alternate versions of compositions written for John Wesley Harding (October 17 and November 6, 1967) and Nashville Skyline (February 13-14, 1969) while introducing a new song "Western Road" (a Nashville Skyline outtake). LP's 2 and 3 are centered around Dylan's collaborations with American music icon Johnny Cash including the much sought-after Columbia Studio A sessions and on-stage performances at the Ryman Auditorium (May 1, 1969) for the recording of the premiere episode of The Johnny Cash Show (originally broadcast on ABC-TV on June 7, 1969). LP 3 closes with tracks recorded on May 17, 1970 with Grammy Award-winning bluegrass banjo legend Earl Scruggs for the PBS television special, "Earl Scruggs: His Family and Friends" (originally aired January 1971).

Jeff Lynne's ELO - From Out Of Nowhere - Sony
From Out Of Nowhere is the new album from Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and music legend Jeff Lynne, and follows up a remarkable run of sold out European and American tours. Jeff Lynne’s ELO, whose music has touched fans deeply across three generations now, has found himself in recent years at the peak of his powers as a songwriter, musician and producer. This new collection features a buoyant title song which opens the ten-track record including the wistful “Help Yourself” to the celebratory “Down Came the Rain” to the churning rocker “One More Time” to the sweet closer, “Songbird.” As does its predecessor, 2015’s Alone in the Universe, From Out Of Nowhere shows Lynne finding new facets to his signature sound, at once drawing on his globally loved legacy and forging new paths in both sounds and emotions. Once again, he plays nearly every note of the music on guitars, bass, piano, drums, keyboards and vibes, as well as singing all of the lead and layered harmony vocals. Steve Jay, who also engineered the album, adds some percussion.

    R.E.M. - Monster: 25th Anniversary Edition - Craft Recordings
R.E.M.’s ninth album, Monster, was released at a time when the band were coming off the peak of their mainstream success, following Out of Time (1991) and Automatic For The People (1992). Coming from a long break in touring (the band famously didn’t tour with the two previous records), Monster represented an intentional shift in R.E.M.’s sound, a “return to rock” with guitar laden, simple arrangements. It was released to strong reviews and significant global success - reaching #1 on Billboard, and least 7 other countries. In 1995 the band promoted that album with their first concert tour since 1989 (although several band members suffered health problems). The album includes the singles; “What’s The Frequency, Kenneth?,” “Crush with Eyeliner,” “Bang and Blame,” and “Strange Currencies.” Commemorating the album’s 25th anniversary, original Producer Scott Litt re-approached R.E.M.’s “Monster” by remixing the entire album. The original 1995 version was dense in guitars and feedback with the vocals mixed within the sonic wall, but on this alternative version the guitars are pulled back and the vocals pushed forward to create a more open sound and showcase often-revealing lyrics. The deluxe edition package also includes previously unreleased demos, a complete live performance, recorded from the Monster tour in Chicago on June 3, 1995, plus a Blu-ray disc which features the band’s tour documentary “Road Movie,” five original music videos, as well as the complete remastered Monster album in 5.1 surround sound and hi-resolution audio.

Nirvana - MTV Unplugged In New York: 25th Anniversary Edition

Nirvana - MTV Unplugged In New York: 25th Anniversary EditionNirvana - MTV Unplugged In New York: 25th Anniversary EditionNirvana - MTV Unplugged In New York: 25th Anniversary Edition - Geffen Records
Nirvana's classic MTV Unplugged In New York album is getting a 25th anniversary vinyl reissue. Marking the iconic lives set's first pressing as a double LP, the new edition features five rehearsal performances that were previously available on only the DVD release. Among the rehearsals – which were previously only available as bonus content on the MTV Unplugged in New York – is a different take on the David Bowie cover “The Man Who Sold the World,” a version that finds both Nirvana and the production team finding their footing ahead of the concert. Rehearsal versions of “Polly,” “Pennyroyal Tea,” “Come As You Are” and the Meat Puppets’ “Plateau” are also included on the vinyl’s Side D.

This title was recorded live at the historic Village Vanguard in NYC in the Fall of 2018 during Jon Batiste’s residency at the legendary space. It is the follow up to “Anatomy of Angels’, which is part 1 of this 2 part series. The music on Chronology Of A Dream: Live At The Village Vanguard is original, instrumental music (other than “Soulful” which is a tribute cover to Ray Hargrove) showcasing Batiste’s virtuosic and uplifting talent he uses to command a room, and an iconic one at that.
